  • Active Adventure
  • 6 days; 5 nights
  • 1 to 8 travelers
  • Begins & ends in Alta
Since the seventeenth century, the Sami people of Norway have herded reindeer to make use of their meat and fur. Every year, the reindeer migrate to the coast in search of grassy pastures and salt. Live with a native Sami family in Northern Norway and experience their annual tradition of herding reindeer to the coast. This is once in a lifetime opportunity to live the life of the Sami and explore the beauty of the Arctic wilderness. You will spend your days traveling through the Tundra on snow mobiles and spend your nights sleeping in a cozy tent in the middle of the purest Arctic nature in Norway. The Sami are the only indigenous people living in the European Union. Their lifestyle and culture are threatened, as approximately only 2,800 Sami work full time as reindeer herders. Listen to the Sami as they discuss the challenges to their indigenous tradition. Return home with both a newfound appreciation for the environment and a transformed perspective on indigenous rights.read more
