Laikipia Gem - Three Night Walking Safari

  • Multi Destination Journey
  • Active Adventure
  • 4 days; 3 nights
  • 1 to 10 travelers
  • Begins & ends in Kimanjo
See Kenya's array of wildlife like never before -- from the back of a camel. Join a team of guides on an exclusive walking and riding safari in Kenya's Laikipia region. Travel from campsite to campsite looking for wildlife while an experienced team journeys ahead to prepare each day's new site. The first camp is nestled near a rock formation that locals refer to as Nayasura. These ancient rocks are sacred ground, used for thousands of years by hunters and others seeking shelter. Ancient graves, flints and pounding stones called boluses are all in evidence around the rocks and particularly the caves. After an evening stroll you will scale its slopes and take part in a sundowner, an African bush tradition. There, you will drink cocktails and watch as the sun goes down. Early the next day after a delicious breakfast, you will set off on your camel, loaded with water and snacks to fuel your day admiring the diverse wildlife. You will arrive at your next camp before lunch and spend the heat of the day relaxing. At night, you will have the chance to take an evening stroll or rock climb. The safari traverses a rich Acacia bush country that thrives with both game as well as the predators that like to eat them. It is not uncommon to run into a lion, leopard, hyena or wild dog along the course of this safari. The safari finishes on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River which is hugely popular with elephants who love to wallow in its muddy stretches.read more

Kerry Glen

In the wilder stretches of Laikipia, Kenya. Kerry Glen and James Christian have been running Karisia Walking Safaris since 2003. On Tumaren, their ranch that they manage exclusively for wildlife a visitor can see a large diversity of large game while walking beside camels who carry water and snacks. For kids who can tire more easily they often times prefer to game-spot from camelback, often times approaching Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebras and plains game closely. The walks are guided by Kerry and James as well as by their teams of excellent Samburu and Masai guides. Gabriel Ewoi is the lead guide at Karisia and while simultaneously fluent in the Latin and English names of everything you see, he is also fluent in the cultural, geological and ecological stories that piece Laikipia together.read more
